Now that you can no longer depend on the pause to make decisions for comma placement, more practice will help you build the skill that you need.

EDITING VS. COMPOSING

The best time to work on commas is when you are editing, not while you are composing.

If you stop to make comma decisions as you draft your ideas, you will lose your train of thought. In fact, the time to make any writing decision is when you are editing, not while you are creating.

Writing is a process. If you respect the process by separating composing activities from editing activities, you will make dramatic progress. If you don't, you will quickly get a headache!
